When you do not want to compromise your safety oriented service
provision while increasing the throughput efficiency of your airport(s),
a planning tool that automatically creates arrival sequences becomes
a very welcome aid.
OPTAMOS is an advanced tool that gives advisories to controllers
and pilots (time over waypoint and RNAV transition routes) in order
to achieve an optimised arrival sequence. In contrast to other arrival
management systems, OPTAMOS uses multiple (about 10-20) RNAV transition
routes between the metering fix and the runway for absorbing necessary
delays in the TMA. In the case that the delays cannot be absorbed
within the TMA, time-to-lose and holding advisories are created.
Frequent direct approaches can be accomodated by the concept of
virtual metering fixes defining a short-cut to the 10 NM point.
For establishing and optimising the sequence, the following parameters
are taken into account:
* the necessary spacing (DLI = determined landing interval) at
the runway threshold
* total sequence length
* wake vortex category (WTC) separations
* aircraft priority lists based on callsign and company
* slots for departing traffic
* runway configuration changes
By using a suitable layout of the RNAV routes, OPTAMOS can handle
multiple runway and multiple airport configurations.
Frequent statistics give the airport manager the tools to overview
the trend and changes in the traffic throughput so that correct
measures can be taken to further optimise the processes and procedures
for increasing the air traffic throughput and safety
