January 31, 2008:
AviBit and its partner Egis Avia (former Sofreavia) have been awarded
a contract by Eurocontrol for the development and validation of
new A-SMGCS Safety Net Features by use of Electronic Flight Strips.
The project with a duration of 2 years is part of Eurocontrols Airport
Operations Programme and focuses on the definition and implementation
of enhanced A-SMGCS safety net features in tower environments which
operate A-SMGCS and Electronic Flight Strips.
AviBit A-SMGCS and Electronic Flight Strips are the basis for further
development
AviBit and Egis Avia were the selected providers for Eurocontrol
since AviBit is the only company which has an operational A-SMGCS
and Electronic Flight Strip System and air traffic controllers at
Vienna airport are familiar with these systems since more than 2
years. The expected results of the project will be operational guidelines,
validations, human factor cases as well as cost benefit analysis
for extended safety net features by use of A-SMGCS and Electronic
Flight Strips. While Egis Avia will be mainly responsible the definition
of operational concepts and project management, AviBit will implement
the new safety net features in its products and will perform first
trials with the new functionality.
These features will be available in the AviBit COTS products and
thus all AviBit customers can benefit from the new developments.
