June 14, 2007:

AviBit - a supplier for tower automation tools - has released the most recent version of its Digital Flight Strip System. The new software has successfully passed the acceptance tests for its operation at Vienna Airport where it is fully certified and in operational use since 2005.

Wolfgang Eder, product manager at AviBit, explained that the new version of the system now supports enhanced tower automation functionality like:

  • Optional coupling between Digital Flight Strips and A-SMGCS. Selected labels on the A-SMGCS automatically highlight the respective flight strip

  • Improved Safety Nets which warn the controller in case if irregular situations

  • Higher flexibility in user-definable strip layout and strip workflow

  • More flexible interfaces to flight plan information

  • And many more

The Digital Flight Strip System installed at Vienna Tower has become an important tool which helps controller to cope with the steadily increasing traffic. With the new features which have been implemented recently controller's workload could be decreased while maintaining the high level of safety.
