AviBit’s third A-SMGCS installation for Deutsche Flugsicherung to be installed at Berlin Brandenburg International Airport

AviBit Air Traffic Solutions today announces the award of a contract for the provision of the third AceMax® (A-SMGCS) installation for Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH (DFS) in Germany. The system will be delivered to the new Berlin Schoenefeld Airport and will integrate surveillance data from four surveillance sensors. It will be the key instrument for ground operations during all weather conditions while improving safety for ground movements.

Berlin-Brandenburg Airport is a new airport under construction south of Berlin, Germany and is scheduled to open in 2012. The airport will use some of the infrastructure of the existing Berlin Schoenefeld Airport, which will be greatly expanded to the south, becoming the third busiest airport in Germany. Berlin-Brandenburg International will replace the present airports in Berlin, Tempelhof and Tegel.

AviBit has been awarded as main contractor for this project, which includes the AviBit Data Fusion, HMI, Recording and Replay and the delivery of a Surface Movement Radar from TERMA. The scope of the project covers system integration and data fusion of an ERA-Multilateration System, a TERMA SMR, an existing Racal SMR and two existing SSR. “The data fusion will be one of the main challenges in this project, as the surveillance systems reflect different surveillance technologies”, says Alexander Wemmer, Project Manager at AviBit. “Our highly configurable system and the know how we have gained at various projects in the past will allow us to deliver the system on time and within the given budget”.
