AviBit to provide A-SMGCS Data Fusion to NAV Portugal for Lisbon Portela Airport

December 11, 2007:

NAV Portugal - the Air Navigation Service Provider of Portugal - has awarded a contract to AviBit to provide it's A-SMGCS system for Lisbon Portela Airport. The AviBit delivery will include tracking, data-fusion, recording & replay, safety logic, and monitoring and control.

ACEMAX - the most suitable solution for Lisbon Airport

ACEMAX - the AviBit A-SMGCS COTS product - is the heart of the delivery to NAV. It's open interfaces were one of the key facts for NAV to select the AviBit product. Through these interfaces which are based on ASTERIX / Eurocontrol standards, NAV will use its own developed HMI for the controller working position. The AviBit delivery will include all A-SMGCS level 2 functionality.

Because of the complex runway layout at Lisbon Airport, including crossing runways, NAV Portugal puts a high emphasis on the safety logic built into the AviBit system. This system will only require proper configuration to cope with the demanding requirements.

Another major issue for this project is the HMI. While the AviBit HMI is used for maintenance and replay purposes, NAV will use its in-house operational display for the controller working positions. All interfaces between the NAV HMI and the AviBit data fusion are based on ASTERIX and XML formats.

The time-frame for the delivery of the system is quite short. Installation and acceptance are planned for January 2008.
